Xylitol is Poisonous!

People forget that xylitol is poisonous to their dogs. It’s found in sugar-free gum and other diet foods.

HRSA Poison Help

Did you know that xylitol is a sugar substitute that is poisonous for dogs? It’s often found in sugar-free gum, and dogs will sometimes get this from your pocket or purse. Most insidiously, it can be found in sweetened but “sugar-free” peanut butter. Many people use peanut butter as a special treat for their dogs, especially in chew toys. Make sure your peanut butter contains only peanuts (and maybe salt), no xylitol – or its marketing name, “birch sugar”.
